How do I remove poop from a cloth diaper? Many parents ask themselves this question before using their first cloth diaper. Does the stool get washed along with the diaper, or do you have to painstakingly scrape it out? Don't worry – it's actually very easy and effortless. But we'll explain exactly how in this article.
Milk stool in the cloth diaper
Milk stool is water-soluble and can be washed in the washing machine without any problems. Simply place the diaper as is in the wet bag and then wash it after about 3 days. If there is more milk stool in the diaper, you can easily remove it roughly with some toilet paper.
Normal bowel movements
Normal stool should ideally not be put in the washing machine, but removed beforehand.
Protective paper
Many people like to place a diaper liner inside their cloth diapers to catch the worst of the stool. If positioned correctly, it also prevents stool from getting onto the diaper itself, and can then be easily and hygienically removed and flushed down the toilet or thrown away. Our diaper liner is toilet-safe and can therefore be disposed of in the toilet without any problems. To keep it from shifting, you should fold it slightly into the flap at the back of your Lybbie diapers .
You can also find diaper liners under the names diaper fleece or diaper insert.
Stool in the diaper
If no absorbent paper is used or it has slipped, stool can get directly onto the diaper. Usually, the diaper can be roughly shaken out over the toilet – our Lybbie diapers therefore have a non-stick fabric so that the stool can be easily removed.
For other diapers or stubborn stools, you can roughly wipe it off with toilet paper and then put it in the wet bag.
Stubborn stool residue in the diaper
Stubborn stool residue should be washed off with water. To do this, hold the diaper under running water and roughly wash away the residue (disposable gloves can be used for this). Then hang the diaper up to dry, as it should not be placed in the wet bag while wet. Urine and water lead to the formation of ammonia, which can cause smelly diapers. Only when the diaper is completely dry can it be placed in the wet bag.
Bowel movements in the washing machine
Milk stool is no problem for the washing machine, and even small pieces of normal stool are easily manageable. Ultimately, disposable diapers often burst, and the stool ends up all over the child's bodysuit or clothing. These items can simply be put in the washing machine as well.
However, it's important to run a cleaning program regularly. Although a washing machine should generally be cleaned about once a month (depending on usage), even without cloth diapers, very few people actually do this. You can run a 90-degree cycle, use special cleaning agents, and occasionally add a descaler.
Discolored diapers
Sometimes stool stains the white inner lining of the diaper, resulting in yellow or brown spots. These stains are purely cosmetic and not visible from the outside. However, if these stains are bothersome, please do not treat them with harsh cleaning agents, but simply place them in the sun. The sun will quickly bleach the diapers, causing the stains to disappear.
Our grandparents already hung their white laundry in the sun to bleach out annoying stains - so this works not only with diapers, but also with white bodysuits, tops or bed linen.
