Welche Stoffwindeln für mein Kind

Which cloth diapers are right for my child?

Many parents wonder which cloth diapers are best for their child, especially since the internet is full of different diaper systems, sizes, and fits.

Before we founded Lybbie, we tried pretty much every system and discovered various advantages and disadvantages that we would like to share.

All-in-one or complete diapers

All-in-one (AIO) or complete diapers are used like disposable diapers. The child is placed inside, the diaper is fastened, and that's it. There are no separate parts to insert; it's a complete diaper without any extras. All-in-one diapers are considered the easiest type of diaper to use.

Advantages of the complete diaper
  • Easy : Without practice or instructions, the complete diaper can be easily put on the child and changed.
  • Suitable for daycare : Many daycare centers and kindergartens are hesitant to use cloth diapers because there are so many different systems. However, all-in-one diapers are just as easy to use as disposable diapers, which is why daycare centers are usually more open to using them.
  • All-inclusive price : With an all-in-one diaper, you pay for the entire diaper and don't need inserts or boosters, which significantly reduces the price. There are no expensive surprises and no need to buy additional items.
  • No research required: You don't need to research which inserts are the most absorbent or what size boosters you need. Just buy a diaper and get started.
  • Minimal laundry: You only wash one diaper at a time, not dozens of individual items.
Disadvantages of the complete diaper
  • Manufacturer-dependent : Complete diapers cannot be combined with different products to create the most absorbent diaper yourself. You are dependent on the materials the manufacturers have used and therefore often end up buying products with inferior materials to save money.

Modular diapers or two-piece diapers

Two-part diapers consist of an absorbent core and a waterproof core. The absorbent core lies on the inside and soaks up the urine. To prevent the wetness from getting onto clothing, a waterproof outer layer is needed. This can be a cover made of PUL or wool.

Advantages of two-piece diapers
  • Modular system : With two-part diapers, you can perfectly adapt the diaper to your individual needs. You use the boosters from one brand, the absorbent core from another, and you want the cover from this manufacturer.
Disadvantages of two-piece diapers
  • Research : To make a really good diaper, you need to do a lot of research. Which is the best absorbent material, which wicks away moisture quickly, how do you wash this component, and how do you lanolize wool diapers?
  • Poor fit : Two-part systems are often assembled, which can cause the inserts to shift inside the diaper. This can lead to leakage of urine or stool, or prevent the diaper from staying leak-proof for long.
  • Bulky diaper bottom : Because you have to use absorbent inserts and boosters in the diaper, the diaper bottom becomes relatively large quite quickly. This means normal pants no longer fit.

Our favorite: Lybbie

After testing various systems, we finally switched to all-in-one diapers. All-in-one diapers are simple and easy to understand; you don't have mountains of different absorbent materials and you don't have to wash twenty individual items.

But because we were not satisfied with the existing brands, we built the very best complete diaper using a modular system - the result was Lybbie .

  • High-quality PUL : PUL is the outer layer of the complete diaper. It's waterproof and prevents urine from leaking onto clothing. We not only use recycled PUL (hello, environment!), but also very high quality because we wanted to develop a diaper that lasts a very, very long time. Who likes leaky diapers?
  • Best Absorbent Material : One of the biggest reasons many people prefer a two-part diaper system is that it allows them to increase the absorbency of the diapers. Most manufacturers use polyester as the absorbent material, which is initially very absorbent, but after a few weeks of washing, it becomes saponified. As a result, the material becomes barely absorbent, or not at all, and the diaper leaks every time. We use bamboo, which becomes more absorbent with washing and therefore lasts a long time. Because here, too, we want to offer you the highest quality on the market.
  • Leakage protection : Let's talk about leg cuffs. Many leg cuffs wick moisture away directly onto the pants or bodysuit. Annoying! That's why we've designed innovative leg cuffs (which are also patent-pending) to prevent exactly that.
  • Fit : What's the point of a cloth diaper if you can only use it for three months because the child then outgrows it? With our practical snaps, we've created a size-adjustable diaper that adapts to the individual size and shape of the child. This means you buy one diaper and can use it for almost the entire diapering period. Of course, this excludes newborns, who, due to their low weight, require their own newborn diaper.
