Stoffwindeln für die Nacht

Cloth diapers for nighttime

Finding cloth diapers for nighttime use can be a real challenge. Many parents therefore opt for disposable diapers instead of cloth diapers at night, as these can hold a relatively large amount of liquid thanks to their superabsorbent polymers. Others use cloth diaper systems that require more frequent changes during the night, which can become increasingly difficult as the child gets older. As children grow older, their nighttime sleep intervals become longer, and parents are reluctant to disrupt these with constant diaper changes. Children need restful sleep (and so do parents), so finding a highly absorbent and long-lasting cloth diaper is essential.

absorbent insert of the cloth diaper

The first thing to look at here is the absorbent inserts: hemp and bamboo absorb best and don't become soapy when washed. Absorbent inserts made of pure polyester should be avoided, as they absorb well initially but become increasingly less absorbent with each wash.

It is always advisable to combine it with cotton, as the moisture needs to be absorbed quickly and then passed on to the absorbent insert, which then stores the moisture.

Depending on which diapering system you want to use, there are ready-made combinations (complete diapers) or you can buy absorbent pants that are wrapped under a diaper cover.

Waterproof cloth diaper

When it comes to the waterproofing of cloth diapers, leak protection is paramount. You can either use a complete diaper like Lybbie, which has the absorbent core sewn in, or an all-in-two/three system. With the latter, there's a waterproof layer over the absorbent core. This waterproof layer can be either a diaper cover or a diaper cover. Some cloth diaper users use PUL or TPU, while others opt for wool. If using wool, it's important to note that it needs to be lanolized.

Recommendation

Naturally, as the manufacturer, we recommend our Lybbie diapers , as we have developed them precisely for such needs; however, we are also very enthusiastic about the combination of absorbent insert and cover for nighttime use.

There are various systems on the market that are not particularly bulky, such as a bamboo under-diaper combined with a wool outer diaper.

If you prefer not to use wool for ethical reasons, PUL or TPU diaper covers or recycled wool diapers are also suitable (one manufacturer, for example, recycles old cashmere sweaters and makes diapers from them). Lanolin is typically used for lanolin conditioning; the vegan alternative is shea butter.
