Der richtige Sitz von Stoffwindeln

The correct fit of cloth diapers

Those who are used to disposable diapers are often surprised by the relatively low fit of cloth diapers. But don't worry, this is perfectly normal and even desirable. We'll explain why in this short article.

The seat of disposable diapers

While disposable diapers usually extend up to the waist, cloth diapers only reach the hips. This is extremely important to ensure the diaper fits comfortably and correctly for the child. Disposable diapers, due to their inner lining, have a significantly more slippery surface and can therefore more easily push stool upwards and backwards. In this case, it's particularly helpful if the back panel extends higher. Additionally, disposable diapers quickly absorb liquid, causing the superabsorbent core to expand. The full diaper then sags, and its weight can sometimes pull it down to the hips. Here, too, a higher fit is ideal to prevent leaks.

The fit of cloth diapers

Cloth diapers, due to their different material and fit, are significantly more stable than disposable diapers and should fit comfortably around the child's hips. Since they don't contain superabsorbent polymers that swell upon contact with liquid, but rather absorbent material, they simply become heavier, not bulkier. This means the cloth diaper never sags between the child's legs and remains more comfortable even when full. Furthermore, the inner material of the cloth diaper is less slippery for stool, and the sewn-in elastic band at the back effectively prevents stool from sliding upwards. Thus, the diaper and waste stay where they should.

Conclusion

So there's no need to worry if the cloth diaper sits lower than the disposable diaper: it fits perfectly and is comfortable for your little one and will neither slip down nor push stool upwards on the back.
