Warum die Neugeborenenwindel jetzt öfter überläuft (und was das mit Entwicklung zu tun hat)

Why newborn diapers are now leaking more often (and what this has to do with development)

In the first few months, diaper changes feel like a never-ending cycle. No sooner is the diaper closed than it's wet again. Everything seems a bit random and chaotic. But after about three months, something changes very subtly, almost imperceptibly. And suddenly, the diaper leaks.

But don't worry: This is not a mistake. It's progress.

From dripping to storage: What changes in a baby's body

In the first few weeks of life, the bladder is still tiny. The kidneys are not yet fully developed. Therefore, babies urinate often and in small amounts. They simply release the urine as soon as it's there.

That's exactly what our newborn diapers are made for: They reliably absorb small amounts of urine and gently hug the body.

However, from the fourth month onwards, many babies begin to urinate more deliberately.

🕰️ They store urine for extended periods of time.
💤 They urinate less often while sleeping.
☀️ They empty their bladder more frequently after waking up, often with a small burst of force.

This means that urination patterns change. Instead of a constant little bit, it's less frequent, but larger amounts at once.

Sometimes, when a diaper leaks, that's a reason to rejoice.

If your Libbie diaper suddenly stops catching everything, even though it still fits well, it's usually not due to the fit. Rather, it's due to the increasing amount of urine per urination.

This isn't a cause for concern, but rather a sign of maturation. The kidneys are working more efficiently, the bladder is becoming stronger, your baby is taking the next small developmental step.

What you can do now

💛 Switch to the next size up in Lybbie: More absorbency, same softness, and a great fit.
💛 Use boosters: These are thin additional inserts that absorb more urine in specific areas and can accompany the newborn diaper for a while longer.
💛 If you have any questions, just get in touch: Send us a picture and/or a short description and we'll be happy to help you find the right size.

Development sometimes looks like a pile of laundry.

If something leaks, it's not always a problem. Sometimes it's simply a sign that something is changing inside your child.
